Re: Ask the Dust film
Tue, January 17, 2006 - 3:05 PMFante was, after all, involved with film throughout his career as a writer. Even though he considered it less of an art form than writing, Robert Towne has arguably taken screenwriting and made it into an art form. Towne knew Fante personally, knew his life story and the struggles that Fante went through as an artist. Towne has spent 30 years developing the project. Towne has the wisdom of human relationships and the dynamics of love relationships. All this considered I think this film is a must-see for any Fante fan, and not just for the book "Ask the Dust." -

Wed, January 18, 2006 - 12:59 AMBe great if there were something to look at the official site - Guess it does say, "coming soon"...
Looking forward to it actually - it's been kicked around for quite a while...
Hope Colin Farrell can pull off Bandini... -

Re: Ask the Dust film
Wed, January 18, 2006 - 1:13 AMTowne said that part of the reason he chose Farrell is because Farrell's a foreigner, and he brought that to the role of Arturo Bandini who of course is an Italian immigrant. Towne's great with actors anyway, gives them lots of space to do their thing. -

Mon, January 23, 2006 - 11:50 AMConfidentiality prevents me from going into it any further, but I'll just say this: the more one knows about John Fante himself, not just Ask the Dust, the richer the film will be. -

Re: Ask the Dust film
Wed, February 8, 2006 - 6:00 PMIt wasn't really ulterior, I like the film as it is regardless of having worked on it or not. If nobody sees the film it doesn't affect me in any way, except of course if I'm using the publicity to get a new job. But the film IS based on a John Fante work, a work that Fante himself tried to get made into a film and wanted Towne to make, and this being a John Fante tribe I don't see any harm in promoting it.
