What are your reasons for liking fante??
I think one of the biggest reasons for me is that I almost feel as if he's writing about me half the time. "I am the great writer ___________,author of ________", and Im always as broke as I look. There are many other reasons but I dont want to bore the crap out of you with my mundane details...

Re: Reasons for...
Mon, April 19, 2004 - 1:18 PMi like his honesty. the realness of describing the women. he loved them, but said such nasty things about them. i also love the fact that its based in LA. it was so fun for me to read about bunker hill and figueroa (etc) while becoming aquainted with LA myself. plus he was a drunk.
finally, bukowski loved him so i had to check him out. -

Mon, April 19, 2004 - 1:55 PMYou should check out Louis Ferdinand Celine, if you havent already. If you read Bukowskis Pulp, Celine was the main charachter, or at least he named the charachter after him.
If you pick up Celine, read "Death on the Installment Plan" -

Re: Reasons for...
Tue, June 1, 2004 - 4:20 PMmy reasons are i can't put the damn books down once i start them. they flow well, never get boring, and then he comes off with these statements/reflections/revelations that just floor me. his honesty is at the core of his consciousness, like dark secrets you can't even tell yourself much less put it in writing.
